The 14th AIC Congress will be organized at the headquarters of the Università degli Studi di Milano, in the historical Ca’ Granda building in downtown Milan, at the end of August 2021.
It is the first time that such a Congress will be hosted in Italy and organized by the Associazione Italiana Colore.
However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it may be necessary to change the Congress attendance to hybrid mode or completely online, and this decision will be communicated by the end of March 2021 at latest.
Despite the pandemic that affects us all, we have been working on the organization of the event and plan to keep you all posted on what is done and
will be done for the 14th AIC Congress. For that purpose, we have decided to produce a short newsletter that will be sent to you all, and will be distributed through our colleagues, presidents and secretaries, of the AIC national groups as well as social media and other online services that operate via websites and mobile apps.
The Call for papers is open and you are invited to submit your abstracts via EasyChair. Please address one of the 13 topics selected for this event. Deadline abstract submissions is March 31, 2021.
Sessions
We are announcing a special session on RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGIES IN COLOR FOR BEAUTY CARE AND HAIRSTYLE.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, but it is also a wide subject studied as part of aesthetics, culture, social psychology and sociology. Today, cosmetology and beauty treatments that range from hairstyling to nails polish, with their sophisticated and innovative applications of color, play a key role in our society, in particular related to fashion trends and identity formation.
With this special session, we aim at gathering together scholars and experts of color in the field of beauty care
and hairstyle for sharing their views, experiments and best practices involving color and coloring. For instance, which are the best practices for obtaining a homogenous color and well-balanced color schemes? Are there any specific techniques to stabilize the result? How to assess the final quality of makeup? Is color analysis a key point for defining makeup or clothing? These are merely some of the open questions characterizing the field.
In order to stimulate discussion and foster innovative research, we are looking forward to receiving abstracts that address the specific topic of this session.
Invited
Eight invited speakers have already been scheduled and it is our intention to introduce them to you in these newsletters, one by one.
It is our enormous pleasure to have John McCann from McCann Imaging (Arlington, MA, United States) as invited speaker at the 14th AIC Congress in Milan. John worked in, and managed, Polaroid’s Vision Research Lab in the 1961-1996. He is a Fellow of the Society of Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T), and Optical Society of America (OSA). He is a past president of IS&T; and the Artists Foundation, Boston; and past-Secretary of the Inter-Society Color Council (charter member of AIC representing the United States). He is the IS&T/OSA-2002 Land Medalist and IS&T 2005 Honorary Member. He continues his research on color vision, photography, and fine art; he is fascinated with the rich histories of photography
and all color disciplines.
His talk will be on ‘Edges in illumination control appearances in natural HDR scenes’ and will review how color has changed, and not changed, throughout AIC’s 1967-2021 history discussing Art, Design, Colorimetry, Color Technology and Vision.
A short video by John McCann introducing his AIC2021 speech is available at link.
